The Docufiction "Per un Nuovo Domani", produced by Alfea Cinematografica in collaboration with Rai Fiction, will be broadcast on Friday, January 26th at 9:20 pm on Rai 3 on the occasion of the International Holocaust Remembrance Day.

The main protagonist is played by Neri Marcorè and the story of the film is based on the book "L'Orizzonte Chiuso" (2002) published by Maria Pacini Fazzi editore, whose authors are Silvia Angelini, Oscar Guidi and Paola Lemmi.

The filming, which began in November, was carried out entirely between the municipalities of Castelnuovo Garfagnana, Castiglione Garfagnana and the surrounding areas, as well as in the spaces of the Shoah Memorial in Milan, from the track below the Central Station, from which the trains to Auschwitz departed.

The Docufiction tells the little-known story of a group of about 70 Jews defined as foreigners by the fascist regime, who between 1941 and 1943 were forced to live in "free internment", or forced residence, in Castelnuovo di Garfagnana. The two years of forced coexistence allowed, despite the prohibitions, the development of relations of various kinds between the group of interned Jews and the local community, sometimes of conflicts and misunderstandings, but above all of mutual help and solidarity. But the horrors of the World War II will end up upsetting this reality as well.

We would like to thank the Fondazione Centro di Documentazione Ebraica Contemporanea - CDEC of Milan for the valuable scientific advice.

"Making this film has been for me a journey through time full of emotions and introspection, a bit like removing the dust from an old family photograph", says Luca Brignone. "Seeing everyone, myself included, excited while we were shooting the scenes of testimonies of surviving lives and finite lives, of love torn, of child hands removed from the affections was revealing of a common feeling: compassion."
